The three main export markets of Vietnam’s woodchips are China, Japan, and South Korea.
The number of wood chips exported to these three markets in the first seven months of 2021 accounts for 98% of the total export volume of the woodchip industry.
China is the largest import market, accounting for 67% of the total volume, Japan accounted for 28%, and South Korea accounted for 3%. In the first seven months of the year, China imported 5.73 million tons of wood chips from Vietnam, reaching $743 million, up 21% over the same period.
However, in July 2021, export volume and value compared to the previous month decreased, reaching 595,000 tons, down 31.7%; in matter went 80 million USD, down 29.2%.
For the Japanese market, in the first seven months of 2021, Japan imported 2.34 million tons of wood chips from Vietnam, reaching 283 million USD, up 36.9% in volume and 27.5% in value over the same period last year. 2020. In July 2021, the importance of woodchips exported to Japan was 376,000 tons, reaching 45.97 million USD, increasing volume and value by 2.29% and 25.1%, respectively.
For the Korean market, in 7 months, Korea imported 271,000 tons of wood chips from Vietnam, reaching 36 million USD, up 18.57% in volume and 13.3% in value over the same period. The book and value of exports to Korea decreased in July 2021 compared to the previous month at 23.9% in volume and 15.5% in value, reaching only 40.04 thousand tons, equivalent to 6.20 million USD.
